MCDOWELL COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A 69-year-old McDowell County man has been sentenced following convictions on multiple sexual offense charges stemming from incidents dating back to 2020.
John Fields, of Premier, West Virginia, was found guilty by a jury on a series of charges, including four counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian, or person of trust; four counts of first-degree sexual abuse; one count of third-degree sexual assault; and one count of indecent exposure.
On April 20, 2026, Circuit Judge Rudolph J. Murensky sentenced Fields to 10 to 20 years in prison on each count of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian, custodian, or person of trust. He was also sentenced to one to five years on each count of first-degree sexual abuse and one to five years for the third-degree sexual assault charge. For the indecent exposure conviction, Fields received a 90-day sentence in regional jail.
All sentences will be served concurrently. Fields was credited with one day of time served.
Following his release, Fields will be required to register as a sex offender for life and will be placed under extended supervision for 20 years.
