MCDOWELL COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – After weeks of recovery efforts following the recent devastating flood, local schools will officially reopen on March 10, 2025. The decision comes as part of the community’s ongoing rebuilding efforts, ensuring students can return to a safe and supportive learning environment while families continue flood relief and cleanup work.
Transportation and Safety Measures
For families in areas where bus routes remain inaccessible, school officials will work individually to find solutions to ensure all students can return as soon as possible. The district is coordinating with the Department of Highways to ensure buses can operate safely where roads are clear.
Bus routes may change as road conditions improve, and families are encouraged to check the MCS website by March 5, 2025, for updates.
Remote Learning Support
To help students stay engaged before returning to the classroom, schools will provide Chromebook devices for students to complete technology-supported lessons focusing on math and reading review.
Community Resilience
School officials thank families for their patience and support during this challenging time, emphasizing that the community remains strong and committed to rebuilding.
