MEADOW BRIDGE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – UPDATE: A drinking water warning issued in Meadow Bridge earlier today has been rescinded after officials confirmed that nitrite levels are not above the safe drinking water standards.
According to town officials, the initial warning was the result of a clerical error in Charleston, where chlorine residual levels were mistakenly entered in place of nitrite levels.

Residents of Meadow Bridge have been warned about elevated nitrite levels in their drinking water, which exceed safe drinking water standards.
Officials caution that infants under six months old should not consume the water, as high nitrite levels can cause serious illness, including shortness of breath and blue baby syndrome.
According to the notice posted by Meadow Bridge Water & Sewer, parents should avoid using the water for infant formula and opt for bottled or low-nitrite alternatives.
Additionally, boiling the water will not remove nitrites and may instead increase their concentration.
Town officials are monitoring the situation and taking extra water samples to ensure that the nitrite levels return to safe standards.
For more information, residents can contact Joseph L. Moul at 304-573-1783 or by mail at P.O. Box 27, Meadow Bridge, WV 25976.
Officials urge residents to share this information, particularly with those who may not receive the notice directly, such as individuals in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses.
The warning was issued on March 17, 2025.
