MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Mercer County Animal Shelter will receive more than $41,000 for improvements aimed at providing additional storage and upgraded facilities for animals at the shelter.
According to a letter from Gov. Patrick Morrisey’s office, the Mercer County Commission was awarded a $41,863 Local Economic Development Assistance Grant through the West Virginia House of Delegates.
The funding will be used to purchase a new outdoor storage building and make facility upgrades, including the construction of a play, exercise and relief area.
The Mercer County Animal Shelter thanked Delegate Doug Smith for his assistance in securing the funding.
“We want to give the biggest thanks to the amazing Delegate Doug Smith for this assistance grant. The shelter desperately needs new storage buildings, upgraded outdoor runs, and a safe area for pups to play and exercise, and with this grant, we’ll be able to achieve exactly that. Thank you so very much, Doug!” the shelter stated.
The grant award letter, dated July 21, was addressed to Mercer County Commission President Bill Archer and included the $41,863 check for the project.
