PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Mercer County Coalition for Healthy Communities invites community members, families, and local leaders to participate in a Cancer Prevention and Awareness Walk on February 24 at 12:00 PM beginning at the Children’s Home Society in Princeton.
Held in recognition of National Cancer Prevention Month, this event brings Mercer County together to support survivors, honor loved ones lost, and promote prevention, education, and early detection.
The walk will cover one city block and will begin in the Children’s Home Society parking lot. The event will also feature community speakers and resource information focused on cancer prevention, early detection, and local support services.
“Prevention starts with awareness and action,” said Candace Harless, representing the Mercer County Coalition for Healthy Communities. “This walk is about standing together as a community — supporting survivors, remembering those we’ve lost, and committing ourselves to prevention and education. Every step we take reflects hope, unity, and the power of community collaboration.”
Participants will have access to educational materials and prevention resources, reinforcing the importance of regular screenings, healthy lifestyle choices, and early detection practices. Organizers emphasize that individuals do not need a personal connection to cancer to participate — only a shared commitment to strengthening community health.
