MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Mercer County man is facing multiple charges after troopers say he assaulted his girlfriend during a domestic dispute in Bluefield before hiding inside a closet when law enforcement arrived.
According to the West Virginia State Police, Trooper C.L. Kennedy responded around 10:20 p.m. on May 10 to a domestic disturbance call on South Upshur Street in Bluefield.
When troopers arrived, they made contact with the victim, who told investigators she had been involved in a verbal argument with her boyfriend, Ryan Quillian, that escalated into violence.
According to the criminal complaint, she told police Quillian began throwing objects at her, scratching her, pushing her into a door, and pouring hot wax onto her face.
Troopers reported observing dried wax covering portions of the victim’s face, along with red, swollen abrasions on her arms and back.
Investigators said the victim told police she fled the residence out of fear for her safety and sought refuge at a nearby neighbor’s home.
Troopers later traveled to a residence on Old Bramwell Road in connection with the incident.
According to the report, officers were invited inside the home and began searching for Quillian after repeatedly calling out for him.
Troopers eventually located Quillian hiding beneath a blanket inside the back of a closet.
Police said Quillian was taken into custody and read his Miranda rights.
During questioning, investigators said Quillian admitted he became angry after waking up and allegedly seeing Bushinsky with another man inside the residence.
According to troopers, Quillian stated he began kicking items around the house during the argument.
When questioned about allegedly pushing the victim into a door, Quillian reportedly told investigators he “only shoved her out of his way.”
Troopers also asked Quillian about the hot wax found on the victim’s face. According to the complaint, Quillian claimed he may have accidentally kicked the wax onto her.
Investigators further questioned Quillian about why he was hiding in the closet after troopers arrived. According to the report, Quillian responded that he “didn’t know.”
Police later confirmed Quillian and the victim were intimate partners living together at the time of the incident.
Ryan Quillian has been charged with:
- Malicious Wounding
- Domestic Battery
- Domestic Assault
- Obstructing an Officer
The investigation remains ongoing by the West Virginia State Police.
