PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Princeton man is facing serious charges after allegedly taking more than $11,000 from a 76-year-old woman for a driveway paving job he never completed.
According to a report from the West Virginia State Police, Robert Brian Whitlow was paid $11,525 by an elderly woman on June 26, 2023, to pave her driveway at her residence on Glenwood Park Road. She said she withdrew the money in cash and received a “paid in full” receipt from Whitlow at the time.
But the work was never started, and she said that after weeks of excuses, Whitlow eventually stopped answering her calls altogether. She was later forced to hire another company to do the job for $13,000.
Because the victim is over the age of 65, the case qualifies as financial exploitation of an elder, a felony offense under West Virginia law. Investigators have requested warrants for obtaining money under false pretenses and financial exploitation of an elderly person.
The investigation was initiated after a referral from the Office of the Attorney General. Authorities confirmed that all events took place within Mercer County.
The case remains under investigation.
