ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Mercer County man is facing multiple charges after deputies say he shoved his father to the floor before fleeing from law enforcement during a domestic disturbance early Monday morning.
According to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded at approximately 2:38 a.m. on July 14 to a residence on West Broadway Street in the Athens area for a domestic disturbance in progress.
Dispatchers advised responding deputies that the suspect, identified as Christopher Bryan Phillips, had allegedly shoved his father, Bryan Phillips, to the floor before running from the residence.
Deputies noted they had already responded to the same address earlier that morning for similar incidents.
When deputies arrived, they spotted Christopher Phillips in the yard of a neighboring residence. As deputies identified themselves and attempted to make contact, Phillips allegedly fled on foot.
According to the criminal complaint, deputies repeatedly ordered Phillips to stop, but he ignored commands and attempted to run back into the residence.
Deputies caught up with Phillips, who allegedly refused commands to place his hands behind his back. Investigators say deputies were forced to physically restrain him before he was taken into custody.
After the arrest, deputies spoke with the victim, who told investigators Christopher became combative and shoved him to the floor during the altercation. A written statement was obtained as part of the investigation.
Christopher Bryan Phillips was charged with domestic battery, fleeing on foot, and obstructing an officer.
The charges are allegations, and Phillips is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
