CAMP CREEK, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Mercer County man is facing multiple charges after deputies say a violent domestic dispute erupted at a home on Beery Road on August 5, 2025.
According to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department, Deputies Sizemore, Nelson, and Sgt. Conner were dispatched to the residence following a 911 call from a female suspect. Dispatchers relayed audio of screaming and yelling, and the caller reported her son had threatened family members, picked up a screwdriver, and used an oxygen tank to damage the home’s walls.
When deputies arrived, they encountered Joseph Thompson in the doorway. After initially refusing commands to get on the ground, he was detained without visible weapons. Investigators say Thompson’s mother told them her son, who has a history of methamphetamine use and a prescription for Xanax, had accused his father of stealing his medication before punching him in the head.
The confrontation escalated when Thompson allegedly grabbed a screwdriver, threatened to kill family members, punched his sister in the mouth, and kicked a locked bedroom door where his father had taken refuge. Deputies documented injuries to both the father and sister, as well as property damage inside the home.
Records show Thompson has a prior domestic battery conviction from 2015. He was transported to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office and charged with:
-
Domestic Battery, 2nd Offense
-
Domestic Assault
-
Brandishing a Weapon
-
Destruction of Property
