MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian that occurred early Thursday morning on Oakvale Road near United Rentals.
According to the sheriff’s office, the incident happened May 21, 2026, at approximately 12:31 a.m.
Investigators said evidence collected at the scene and surveillance footage indicate the suspect vehicle is believed to be a black 2013–2018 Ram 1500 pickup truck with damage to the passenger side, specifically the headlight assembly.
Authorities said the vehicle was traveling toward the Athens Road intersection and may have come from the area of Sheetz.
The sheriff’s office said additional surveillance footage is expected to be reviewed in the coming days as the investigation continues.
Investigators are also asking body shops, mechanics, vehicle repair businesses and individuals who perform body work to watch for vehicles matching the description, particularly Ram 1500 trucks with passenger-side front-end or headlight damage.
