BLUEWELL, WV (LOOTPRESS – A longtime landmark in the Bluewell area, the Hardware Charlie’s building underwent demolition proceedings on Tuesday.
Hardware Charlie’s was a key establishment in the Bluewell area over the course of past decades, but would undergo a rotation of ownership changes following a fire incident which left the location in disarray.
“This hardware store was a staple in our community for many, many years in the 80s and 90s. After a fire many years ago that left it unrepairable, it’s gone through several different owners. We are here today to get the structure down,” said Mercer County Dilapidated Structures Officer Lori Mills.
“I think Jeff Disibbio [President and CEO of the] Chamber of Commerce [of the Two Virginias] said it best a while back: ‘sometimes you have to have subtraction in order to have addition,’ and that’s so very true.”
Mills indicated that further demolitions are anticipated to occur in the near future throughout the county, with roughly $500,000 in grant funding remaining for such endeavors. Those interested in submitting applications for consideration to the Mercer County Dilapidated Structures Office at the War Memorial Building in Princeton, WV, located at 1500 W Main St.
