The Independence boys and Shady Spring girls each claimed their respective middle school county championships Saturday at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.
The Shady Spring girls defeated Park 43-36 in the girls title game with Kendall Wickline’s 13 points leading the way. Zoey Williams led Park with 19.
Wickline earned tournament MVP honors.
In the boys game Independence won 46-32 with a 20-point effort from Iziah Gordon. Jaxson Workman led Trap Hill with 15 points in the loss.
Independence’s Brock Green earned MVP honors.
