HICO, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Midland Trail community is in mourning today following the loss of one of their fellow classmates.
Midland Trail Football announced the heartbreaking news that one of their own passed away tragically in a car accident Tuesday morning.
Below is the statement from Midland Trail Football:
“As most of the community is aware, we tragically lost one of our own players, Damon Mooney. this morning in a car accident. Make no mistake about it, we are a family and this one of our kids. We do not go a day without telling our kids we love them, and we mean it.
The Mooney family is hurting.
Our team is hurting.
Our school is hurting.
Our community is hurting.
Please pray for everyone’s comfort and healing during this time as we cope with the loss of #66 Damon Mooney.

It is evident that Damon Mooney, known as #66 for the Patriots, had a positive impact on not only his classmates but the entire community as a whole.
The Hico Psychos, the student-led athletic and academic pep group at Midland Trail, says that Damon was a major part of the program.

“Today was a horrific day in our community We lost the life of a soul that brought nothing but joy to everywhere and everyone around him. Damon Mooney was a tremendous part of the Hico Psychos family. He will be missed greatly by all that knew him. In his remembrance we have started a Gofundme for his immediate family to help with any expenses necessary. If you or a loved one can, we encourage you to donate and show your support for the Mooney family. “
