WILLIAMSON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An alleged threat from a Mingo County student resulted in the implementation of lockdown procedures at a West Virginia high school on Wednesday.
According to the Mingo County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, a threatening message sent by a student of Tug Valley High School was brought to the attention of the School Resource Officer, Sgt. D. Nunley of the Mingo County Sheriff’s Office.
The threat resulted in the immediate lockdown of the school, and Sheriff Joe Smith along with several Mingo County Deputies were able to make their way to the facility in just a matter of minutes.
The student purported to have been behind the threat was located by deputies, who were able to conduct a search of the student’s locker and belongings.
These search procedures led law enforcement to the conclusion that there was no immediate threat to the school. As a result, the lockdown of the school was lifted.
No details have been made available at the time of writing with regard to the nature of the threat itself, and no identifying information such as name or age has been provided with regard to the student in question aside from confirmation from law enforcement that the student was, in fact, male.
