PARKERSBURG, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Mister Bee Potato Chips, West Virginia’s only potato chip manufacturer, has introduced a new flavor inspired by one of the state’s most famous legends.
The “Mothman Style Mysterious Spice Blend Chip” is now hitting store shelves, with statewide availability coming soon.
Mary Anne Ketelsen, co-owner of Mister Bee, said the new chips honor the legend of the Mothman and the popular festival held annually in Point Pleasant.
“At Mister Bee, we are all about making quality snacks for our loyal customers, having fun and doing good for the state in the process,” Ketelsen said.
Mister Bee has a history of celebrating West Virginia through unique chip flavors and packaging.
Under Ketelsen’s leadership, the company has released several special edition chips, including:
- A bag saluting veterans and military personnel to benefit the USO.
- A bag promoting New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, launched at Bridge Day.
- A “304” chip honoring West Virginia’s area code.
- A “1951” chip recreating the original Mister Bee flavor.
- A Pepperoni Roll flavored chip paying tribute to coal miners who popularized the snack.
- A Sausage and Biscuit flavored chip in partnership with Tudor’s Biscuit World, benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation in West Virginia.
The Mothman legend dates back to November 1966, when two couples reported seeing a terrifying winged creature with glowing red eyes near Point Pleasant.
Their account quickly spread, and the Mothman became a well-known part of West Virginia folklore.
Each year, the legend is celebrated at the Mothman Festival, which will take place September 20-21, 2025, in downtown Point Pleasant.
The festival features live music, vendor merchandise, food trucks, cosplay, and guest speakers, alongside the permanent Mothman Statue and Mothman Museum.
“What flavors, places, events, and traditions of the Mountain State will be next?” teased Ketelsen.
