When voters go to the polls over the next few weeks the stakes could not be higher. Our country, our state and our community are all going through the severe trauma of multiple disruptions converging at this point in history.
From record overdose deaths to food shortages and skyrocketing inflation to the surge in violent crimes and energy crisis currently plaguing our nation we are going through some dark times as a nation and as a people. Many of the issues currently endangering our way of life are self-inflicted. Not in the sense that we the people caused these catastrophes, but in the sense that our government either permitted them to occur or actively pushed them upon us.
If the Federal Reserve prints trillions of dollars out of thin air then you will inevitably have record inflation. If you look the other way as pharmaceutical companies (and now drug cartels) push opiates/fentanyl onto the most desperate and hopeless populations then those populations will be crushed relentlessly for generations. When the Democrats shut down pipelines, restrict drilling and wage all-out war on American energy then of course energy is bound to become more expensive for every American family.
The majority of the problems that we are currently facing were completely avoidable, yet government action and inaction led us to the perilous position we find ourselves in today. And what are Democrats proposing to solve these issues? They want more government, with higher taxes and more power stripped from citizens and given to faceless and unaccountable bureaucrats to wield as they please. We must recognize that more government is not the answer to these serious problems we are facing. Instead we must be honest with ourselves and admit that the size and scope of our government is largely to blame for the calamities we are facing.
I am part of a new generation of conservative/Republican candidates who do not wish to simply be less tyrannical than the Democrats, we want to be part of transformative and lasting change in the way that our government, both state and federal, operate. We want the government to work for the people and their interests, not against the common person for the benefit of a select few at the top. This should not be a radical position as it is the cornerstone on which our nation was founded, that our government should serve the people. It is time to demand that our government be held accountable when it continuously and deliberately fails the people that it is supposed to be protecting while those calling the shots continue to enrich themselves and their friends.
Do not fall for the tricks used by those calling for more and more government power and control. They create a problem, fail to fix it, let it get so bad that people demand action and then they swoop in absorbing more power to put the population at ease. It is time to right this ship and to give the power back to the people and to restore common sense and truth within our halls of power. If I am elected to represent the people of Beckley in the House of Delegates the people will have a voice and someone who will fight for them as if our lives depend on it.
