CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – More than 30,000 West Virginia utility customers remain without power Monday morning following multiple rounds of storms and heavy rain that caused flooding and other damage across the state.
According to PowerOutage.us, 30,150 customers were without electricity Monday morning out of more than 1 million customers tracked statewide.
Kanawha County had the highest number of outages, with 12,957 customers without power.
Other counties reporting significant outages included:
- Marion County — 3,038
- Fayette County — 1,926
- Braxton County — 1,138
- Clay County — 1,052
- Raleigh County — 886
- Putnam County — 855
- Calhoun County — 810
The outages come after severe storms moved through several portions of West Virginia Sunday, bringing heavy rainfall, flooding, downed trees and power lines. In North Central West Virginia, flooding was reported in several counties as storms knocked out power to thousands of customers.
Southern West Virginia was also hit by another round of heavy rain and flooding Sunday. Additional thunderstorms and heavy rainfall remain possible Monday, with already saturated conditions increasing concerns for additional flooding.
Utility crews continue working to restore service as communities across the state recover from the latest round of severe weather.
Outage numbers are subject to change as power is restored and additional outages are reported.
