CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Gov. Patrick Morrisey has appointed Oak Hill resident William J. “Bill” Vest to represent the 50th District in the West Virginia House of Delegates.
Morrisey announced the appointment Tuesday, citing Vest’s decades of experience in law enforcement, corrections and community leadership.
“With his extensive background in law enforcement, state corrections administration, and community leadership, Bill understands the values of hard work and accountability,” said Governor Morrisey. “He will be a strong, reliable voice for his constituents, and I am confident he will serve with distinction in Charleston.”
Vest brings more than 40 years of public safety and administrative experience to the Legislature, including more than three decades working within West Virginia’s corrections system.
He retired in 2022 as acting administrator/superintendent of the Beckley Correctional Center. During his career, Vest also served in leadership positions at Mount Olive Correctional Complex, including as deputy warden and associate warden of security, where his responsibilities included overseeing operations, budgets and personnel.
Earlier in his career, Vest worked as a correctional officer and hospital security officer. He also served as a military police officer in the U.S. Army, where his duties included providing specialized personal security details.
Vest is a graduate of Oak Hill High School and completed criminal justice coursework through Glenville State College. He also holds certifications from the U.S. Military Police School and corrections academies in West Virginia and North Carolina.
He is a member of the American Legion and National Rifle Association and resides in Oak Hill.
