MILL CREEK, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Authorities responded to a motor vehicle accident Friday in which a vehicle struck a tree at full speed on Route 219.
According to reports from Deputy Pingley of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department, on Friday, November 11, 2022, 911 dispatched a single vehicle accident on Route 219 between the Huttonsville Par Mar and the entrance to Beckey’s Creek Road.
Deputy Pingley and Corporal Kyle responded to the scene, noting the wet roads and low visibility due to weather conditions comprised of heavy rain.
Upon arriving on the scene officers noted the driver of the vehicle to be still stuck inside, though he was eventually able to escape through the vehicle’s rear hatch.
Reports indicate that the vehicle appeared to strike a tree driving at full speed on the right side of the road, with no signs of any attempts having been made to avoid the tree.
The passenger side of the vehicle was noted to have been completely collapsed inward.
The driver, while unable to provide a written statement, did give a verbal statement indicating that he had believed himself to be going around a turn when he struck the tree.
An investigation of the incident concludes that the driver did in fact believe himself to be going around a turn and, due to the low visibility on this evening caused by weather conditions, struck the tree at full speed.
