WELCH, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Mount View High School has just opened as a flood evacuation shelter following the declaration of a state of emergency in McDowell County.
The McDowell County Commission declared a State of Emergency in the county Saturday evening following continued heavy rain showers affecting many parts of the county, causing flooding issues.

According to McDowell County Schools, anyone needing to seek higher ground may come to Mount View High School for shelter.
A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for McDowell County until 9:45 PM tonight. The National Weather Service reports that between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have already fallen, with an additional 1 to 2 inches possible.
The McDowell County Commission says multiple roads throughout the county are impassable and that all residents are urged to stay home if possible.
