FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – High water issues are becoming a major concern throughout the region as heavy rain showers continue to blanket southern West Virginia.
The flooding issues have resulted in a state of emergency being declared in McDowell, Mercer, and Summers counties.
The McDowell County Commission reports that multiple roads throughout the county are impassable and urges residents to stay off the roads if possible.
McDowell County Schools has opened up Mount View High School as an evacuation shelter for those needing to seek higher ground.
Multiple roads in Mercer County are also impassable including the Midway Tunnel in Bluefield.
Summers County 911 says John Henry Park still has room for campers that are in flood prone areas.
