FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A coordinated law enforcement operation known as “Fayette County Sting 19” led to multiple arrests and significant drug seizures along U.S. Route 19 on Thursday.
The operation, which took place on June 5, was initiated by Fayetteville Police Chief Ty Hogan and included personnel from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, Oak Hill Police Department, Fayetteville Police Department, and the National Park Service.
The initiative was aimed at disrupting the trafficking of illegal drugs into Fayette County from other states.
According to Fayette County Sheriff Jess McMullen, the operation specifically targeted the flow of narcotics into southern West Virginia, where drug activity has remained a persistent issue for years.
The drugs on our streets are not commonly manufactured in this area, they are transported in from other areas and are typically manufactured south of the American border,” McMullen said.
“If we can slow the trafficking process coming into our area, we can slow the distribution into our communities.”
As a result of the operation, officers seized approximately 103 grams of fentanyl, 12 grams of cocaine (including crack), and 1 gram of methamphetamine.
Authorities also confiscated $19,770 in suspected drug-related cash.
The operation resulted in four felony arrests for possession with intent to deliver, multiple misdemeanor arrests, and numerous citations for simple possession of Schedule I and II controlled substances.
Sheriff McMullen, along with Police Chiefs Whisman, Hogan, and Wissinger, praised the officers involved for their efforts and dedication.
