BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Ongoing snowfall has led to numerous traffic hazards and accidents across the Beckley area, prompting warnings from local emergency officials on Friday.
According to Beckley–Raleigh County Emergency Services, several locations have been identified where road conditions are causing significant problems for motorists.
A disabled vehicle was reported at the intersection of Foote Street and Kanawha Street. A jackknifed tractor-trailer is blocking both lanes in the 1200 block of South Eisenhower Drive near Cardinal Pawn Brokers.
Additional disabled vehicles were reported in the 1100 block of Ritter Drive near Greystone Facilities and in the area of South Eisenhower Drive and South Fayette Street near the former Honey and Rock Motel.
Vehicle accidents have been reported in the 1200 block of Central Avenue in Surveyor and in the 360 block of Robert C. Byrd Drive near Calacino’s.
Emergency officials also reported a disabled tractor-trailer in the right-hand lane of Interstate 64 westbound at mile marker 135.7.
Another vehicle accident was reported near the intersection of Earhart Street and Larew Avenue.
Traffic backups involving several vehicles were noted in the 200 block of Pikeview Drive near Young Chow’s.
The Beckley Police Department said road conditions are “very bad” and urged residents to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary.
Officials continue to monitor conditions as snowfall persists and are asking drivers to use extreme caution if travel cannot be avoided.
