RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Democrat Governor Josh Stein vetoed SB 50, the Constitutional Carry bill, spitting in the face of North Carolina’s pro-gun voters.
“Stein’s gutless veto proves he’s cut from the same anti-Second Amendment cloth, and the National Association for Gun Rights will expose him as the enemy of freedom he is to the same pro-gun voters who dealt defeat to his fellow anti-gun leftists,” warned National Association for Gun Rights Political Director, Dustin Curtis.
“After all, this is the same state that resoundingly rejected the gun-grabbing agendas of Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, and Hillary Clinton,” Curtis explained.
The attention now turns to the state legislature, where the State Senate, on paper, has the votes to overturn Governor Stein’s veto. At the same time, the outlook is murkier in the State House of Representatives, where two Republicans voted against Constitutional Carry just a few days ago.
“We expect Democrats like Stein to trample our rights. But when Republicans like Rep. William Brisson and Rep. Ted Davis sell out to the Bloomberg-funded gun control crowd, it’s a betrayal that demands accountability,” proclaimed Tommy Dimsdale, Regional Director for NAGR.
“They’re not just voting against a bill—they’re voting against the Second Amendment and every gun owner in North Carolina,” Dimsdale added.
SB 50, also known as the “Freedom to Carry NC” Act, which would allow anyone who can legally possess a firearm to legally carry that firearm, has amassed significant grassroots support.
Susan Horne, legislative aide to House Rules Committee Chairman John Bell, claimed that hundreds upon hundreds of phone calls and emails have bombarded their offices ahead of the vote for passage.
However, after Republicans narrowly lost their veto-proof majorities last November, the path for North Carolina to become the 30thConstitutional Carry state is still there, but significantly narrower without Rep. Brisson and Davis’ support.
“It all depends on who shows up to work any given day, the bill is pending a vote on the floor,” explains Regional Director of NAGR, Tommy Dimsdale. “If Brisson and Davis decide to further dig their heels in, we’ll make sure every gun owner in their districts knows they sided with Stein over freedom,” warned Dimsdale.
“Make no mistake that this will be the standout issue of next year’s primary. If these Republicans think they can hide behind Stein’s skirt, they’re in for a rude awakening,” Dimsdale added.
NAGR is mobilizing North Carolina gun rights activists to pressure Republicans to override Stein’s veto and vows political consequences to those who oppose the veto override of Constitutional Carry.
