WELCH, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The McDowell County Commission’s newest member, Dewayne Dotson, addressed the public this week, expressing gratitude to his supporters and declaring his intention to make a meaningful difference in the community.
Dotson was appointed to the position following the departure of former Commissioner Cody Estep, the unexpired term of Dotson was selected to complete following Estep’s 2023 resignation.
“I am truly grateful for the overwhelming support and confidence you have shown in me as I embark on this new political journey,” said Dotson on Thursday, noting a general lack of desire to enter the world of politics prior to his appointment.
“Until this point in my life I didn’t’ really see myself getting into politics,” he said. “I assure you the only reason I’m taking this position is to make a meaningful difference to this county. I do understand the responsibilities that come with this position, and I am committed to addressing the needs and concerns of our county.”
Dotson was sworn in last Thursday by McDowell County Sheriff James Muncy following a Special Session meeting at which the county’s remaining commissioners voted for Dotson to serve the remainder of Estep’s term.
