WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Although Governor Jim Justice has yet to make an official decision on running for U.S. Senate, a new poll shows that Governor Justice would be the strongest Republican candidate in the U.S. Senate race in West Virginia.
The poll, which was done by The Tarrance Group found that 61% of general election voters approve of the job Justice is doing as Governor. 52% of registered Democrats and 61% of Independent voters approve of the job that he is doing.
Justice currently holds a 31% unfavorable rating statewide and 16% within the Republican party.
The poll also shows Justice with a strong lead in a potential 2024 Republican primary at 53%, while West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey currently sits at 21% and Congressman Alex Mooney at 16% with 8% undecided.
Incumbent Senator Joe Manchin currently holds a 44% favorable rating while 52% have an unfavorable impression of him, the poll found.
Governor Justice is the only potential Republican nominee who currently has a lead over Senator Manchin on a general election ballot test according to the poll as Justice holds a 52%-42% lead over Manchin with 5% undecided.
Manchin currently holds a lead over the other Republican candidates as he is shown leading Mooney 55%-40% with 5% undecided and Morrisey 52%-42% with 6% undecided.
Republican Congressman Alex Mooney is the only candidate that has officially declared his candidacy for U.S. Senate in 2024.
