PRINCETON, WV (LOOTPRESS) -New River Community and Technical College is now enrolling students for two Workforce Automotive Service Technology courses offered this fall at Mercer County Technical Education Center.
The two courses—Automotive Service Technology: Electrical Foundations and Automotive Service Technology: Hydraulic Brakes, Steering and Suspension—are designed to provide hands-on training for individuals interested in developing foundational and specialized skills for today’s automotive industry.
Both programs begin with a shared three-week module:
Module I: Introduction to Vehicle Service Technology & Service Bay Operations
This module introduces students to foundational vehicle servicing skills, safety protocols, and collaborative work environments. Hands-on training includes oil and filter changes, tire replacement, vehicle lifting and support, leak inspections, and minor component replacements such as belts and light bulbs. These basics lay the groundwork for more advanced automotive and diesel training.

Automotive Service Technology: Hydraulic Brakes, Steering and Suspension
•           Dates: Aug. 25-Oct. 2
•           Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 5 to 9 p.m.
•           Location: 1397 Stafford Drive, Princeton, WV
•           Tuition: $2,448
Following the introductory module, this course focuses on suspension, steering, and hydraulic braking systems. Topics include four-wheel alignment techniques and diagnosing and repairing antilock brake systems through hands-on training.
Automotive Service Technology: Electrical Foundations
•           Dates: Oct. 6-Nov. 20
•           Schedule: Monday through Thursday, 5 to 9 p.m.
•           Location: 1397 Stafford Drive, Princeton, WV
•           Tuition: $2,512
This course continues from the shared introductory module into a four-week deep dive into automotive electrical systems. Students will study batteries, starters, alternators, wiring diagrams, and electrical tools, building the technical knowledge necessary for today’s advanced vehicle systems.
Students who enroll in both courses will receive a discounted rate of $3,736. Module I only needs to be completed once when taking both courses.
