CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Charleston Police Department over the weekend announced that the department would be begin incorporating foot patrols in an effort to reinforce community/department relations.
The news came on Saturday by way of an announcement shared to social media by the CPD. The announcement indicated the intention of the department to immediately begin to implement the more traditional law enforcement method of foot patrols as a means of establishing more impactful personal connections with residents of the Charleston area.
“In the modern era of policing, foot patrols became less common as police departments nationwide prioritized rapid response, expanded patrol areas with vehicles, and adapted to new technologies,” said the CPD. “However, we’re bringing them back because nothing beats the power of personal connections. By stepping out of our cars, we can build more trust, strengthen community bonds, and make Charleston safer together.”
The statement also encouraged Charleston residents to say, “hello” should they happen to run into a patrolling officer in the area.
“If you see an officer walking through your area, don’t hesitate to introduce yourself. Together, we can make Charleston a stronger, safer community!”
Members of the community have additionally been encouraged to contact the Charleston Police Department with details in the event that they are privy to a particular area within the city which could potentially benefit from increased foot patrols by law enforcement.
