BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Raleigh County residents who have voiced their concerns regarding the New River (Sharon Dempsey Memorial) Pool’s closure through the summer may be able to breathe a sigh of relief, as a projected opening date was disclosed during Tuesday’s meeting of the Beckley City Council.
Beckleh Mayor Rob Rappold requested an update from Parks & Recreation Director Leslie Baker who was also present for the session.
Baker revealed that the recruitment process for lifeguards has seen moderate success, with multiple lifeguards having recently become certified in anticipation of the pool’s opening.
Notably, it was also revealed that the ongoing search for a Pool Manager has finally reached a successful conclusion, and that a candidate has been secured.
Working around a recent development involving the health department, along with the school schedules of the lifeguard candidates, Baker says the hopeful opening date for the pool will be June 8th.
