FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Appalachian Escapes has expanded its lineup of themed vacation rentals with the opening of the Steampunk House, a fully renovated short-term rental near Fayetteville that combines immersive design with a house-wide mystery guests can solve during their stay.
The Steampunk House, located in the Brooklyn community just minutes from Fayetteville, is the fifth themed property created by Appalachian Escapes founders Nate and Rachel Adams. The home joins the company’s other rentals, including the Game House, Wizard House, Mothmanor and the ’80s House.
Adams said the home underwent an extensive renovation before opening to guests.
“This one was a journey,” Adams said. “Everything that you see in this house is brand new from the inside. The only thing that was here before are the exterior windows and the exterior doors.”
According to Adams, the project included new drywall, flooring, plumbing and insulation throughout the home.
“It was a very substantial rehab on the house, but it should last for another 100 years with what we did to it,” he said. “This house is kind of saved.”
Beyond the renovation, Adams said the goal was to create an experience that transports guests as soon as they step inside.
“This place is meant to be immersive,” Adams said. “You walk through the front door and it’s like you change worlds. It’s like going to a theme park or an amusement park where you feel like you’re somewhere else.”
While the exterior resembles a traditional home, Adams said visitors are often surprised by what awaits inside.
“It just looks like a house with yellow siding on the outside, and then you walk in and you’re like, ‘Where am I? This is kind of wild,’” he said.
The home features hidden passageways, a spiral staircase, a loft sleeping area and themed décor inspired by the steampunk genre. Adams described steampunk as “what the future might have looked like from 1890,” featuring Victorian-inspired elements mixed with brass, metal and futuristic design.
The Steampunk House also incorporates a unique interactive feature — a full-house escape room experience.
“The whole house is an escape room,” Adams said. “There’s puzzles scattered all throughout the house. There’s a text clue system now. You come in and there’s a clue and you have to text a number. Then it starts walking you through the story and you have to figure out why this family disappeared. What happened? So the whole house is a mystery that you get to solve when you stay.”
Adams said guests should consider booking more than a single night to fully experience everything the property offers.
“It’s good to stay at these for two nights so that you’ve got the day to enjoy the house and figure out the escape room,” he said.
