WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – The 2024 West Virginia feature-length film Ambrosia! has been awarded “Best Comedy Movie” at the Western Canadian International Film Festival.
Directors Shane Pierce and David Gravely expressed their excitement about winning at the first festival they entered and were particularly thrilled that the award was decided by audience vote.
“This festival’s winners were chosen by the audience rather than a panel of judges, which gives us valuable insight into the film’s appeal to a wide range of viewers rather than a select few,” said Pierce.
Gravely highlighted the significance of winning at a Canadian festival, noting Canada’s reputation for humor. He credited Canadian comedians from Second City as an inspiration for much of the film’s comedy.
“Humor is a cornerstone of Canadian culture, so knowing we could make Canadians laugh is a real honor,” Gravely said.
The 90-minute screwball comedy, written and directed by Pierce and Gravely, follows the chaotic life of an innkeeper trying to manage a house filled with quirky guests and staff.
The cast features Sandeep Chugg, Eliska Hahn-Diller, Kelsey Hofe, Sam Ingram, Afsheen Misaghi, Hannah Moore-Hughes, Robby Moore, Chris Oxley, David Sibray, and Adam Taylor. All cast and crew members are from West Virginia, a fact Butter Chicken Pictures, the production company, takes great pride in.
Following its run on the film festival circuit and additional in-person screenings in West Virginia, Ambrosia! will be available on streaming platforms. However, the producers have not yet announced which services will host the film.
