(LOOTPRESS) – While most local markets have been closed throughout the last couple weeks of 2021, local producers can look forward to strong demand and an upward trend in cattle prices throughout winter and spring of 2022.
Calves, feeder cattle, fed cattle, breeding females, and bulls will all bring more dollars per head in 2022 according to Cattle Fax. The biggest challenge for the calf market will be moisture, the lack of it will limit the upside, but a higher price trend is in place. Also, there is the risk that inflation, elevated feed prices, fuel, and the supply chain issues will cut into profits.
However, the value of calves should outpace the higher cost of other operational inputs, adding more profitability for cow/calf producers which good news for local farmers.
Of local interest on Friday January 7, 2022 the Livestock Marketing Association will hold the 2022 World Livestock Auctioneer Championship qualifying event in Abingdon VA. Contestants from 20 states and Canada will compete, local auctioneers Ben Morgan of Organ Cave, WV and Daniel Mitchell from Cumberland, Ohio will be competing to qualify for the World Championships to be held this summer. You can watch online Friday at 9a.m. on Livestock Marketing Association’s Facebook page.
