BIRCH RIVER, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Birch River man is facing felony charges after allegedly stealing a work truck and causing significant property damage, according to the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department.
On Monday, July 28, 2025, deputies responded to a report of a stolen GMC Sierra work truck loaded with tools valued at approximately $50,000.

The vehicle belonged to a Birch River resident.
Following a tip from a citizen, Nicholas County Deputy M.A. Barber located both the stolen truck and the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Travis Leroy Thompson, at the Birch River Go Mart.
After an investigation, Thompson was arrested and charged with felony grand larceny and felony destruction of property.
Thompson was arraigned before County Magistrate B.J. Holdren and transported to Central Regional Jail in Flatwoods. His bond was set at $20,000.
The case remains under investigation by Deputy Barber with assistance from Sgt. G.M. Auxier.
