CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The West Virginia Senate met on Monday for an afternoon session during which nine bills saw passage, seven of which had been sent to committee previously during the day.
Just prior to the session, constitutional rules were suspended by the body to facilitate the passage of the seven measures which had been recommended for passage by the Judiciary and Finance Committees just prior to the beginning of the session.
Four financial bills saw passage on Monday, including Senate Bill 1002 – creating an appropriation to the Department of Revenue. Senate Bills 1004, 1003, and 1005 pertain to appropriations regarding the Department of Corrections.
Emerging from the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday afternoon were three bills: Senate Bill 1007 – requiring the reimbursement of responsible counties by municipalities for regional jail per diem fees in some instances. Senate Bill 1006 would update temporary identification cards for inmates who have been released from incarceration. Senate Bill 1008 clarifies certain conditions for pre-trial release.
Adopted as well during Monday’s afternoon Senate session were constitutional rules for the passage of two additional bills: Senate Bill 1027, which creates a supplemental appropriation from the state road fund to the Division of Highways, and Senate Bill 1042, which expires Department of Education funds, Vocational Consolidated Accounts Fund from the State Department of Education.
Senate Bills 1012 and 1016 were overlaid along with SB 1024 and 1044. These bills are due for second reading on Tuesday, while the nine bills which saw passage were submitted to the House of Delegates for consideration.
