WEST VIRGINIA (LOOTPRESS) – Norfolk Southern (NS) is actively responding to the severe weather system that impacted communities and rail operations across the Eastern U.S. beginning Saturday, Feb. 15.
The company is working closely with state and local authorities in Kentucky, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia—regions hit hardest—to restore rail infrastructure and support affected employees and communities.
“Our thoughts remain with those impacted, especially families mourning a loss of life and severe property damage,” NS stated.
“We are donating $100,000 to the American Red Cross for both immediate and long-term recovery needs. Additionally, we have two programs in place to assist Norfolk Southern employees affected by this disaster.”
To aid employees facing hardship, NS will soon launch an Employee Hardship Fund, providing financial assistance for those affected by natural disasters, medical emergencies, and other crises.
The program will retroactively cover employees impacted by this storm and previous events like Hurricane Helene.
NS has been a long-time supporter of the Red Cross and donates $250,000 annually through the organization’s Annual Disaster Giving Program.
In response to this recent storm, NS is contributing an additional $100,000 and encouraging employee donations with a two-to-one company match.
The company will also continue to host blood drives throughout the year.
Following the storm’s disruption, NS crews worked around the clock to assess damage, reroute traffic, and restore service.
As of Feb. 20, both main lines are back in operation, ensuring the continued movement of goods and materials across the affected region.
