OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) — The Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene will mark its 75th anniversary with a week of events leading up to Celebration Sunday on August 24, 2025.
The festivities begin Wednesday, August 20, with a picnic and concert featuring guest artist Jonathan White. On Thursday, August 21, the church will host a “Homecoming” night of music and reflection. A Cruise-In with on-site food trucks is set for Friday, August 22, followed by Heritage Night on Saturday, August 23, which will showcase the church’s history and conclude with an ice cream and cake social.
Celebration Sunday will feature a 9 a.m. Sunday School taught by Rev. Benny Bleigh, a 10 a.m. worship service with guest preacher Dr. Steve Estep, and an anniversary dinner following the service. All events are free and open to the public.
The church’s roots trace back to August 20, 1950, when revival meetings were held under a tent at 3221 Main Street East. Twenty charter members formed the congregation, and within a year, services were held in the newly constructed basement. Over the decades, the church has grown under the leadership of fifteen senior pastors and several associate and youth pastors, adding a sanctuary, office space, Family Life Center, and pavilion.
Part of the West Virginia South District of the Church of the Nazarene, the Oak Hill congregation has worked alongside other churches to share the Christian message both locally and globally through mission efforts. The church remains committed to its mission of being a redemptive presence of Jesus Christ in the Oak Hill community and beyond.
