OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – During the Oak Hill City Council meeting Monday evening, it was announced that City Prosecutor Brian Parsons has resigned to take a position with the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Council made the motion to advertise the open position for five days. After five days, the City will interview the candidates that have applied and a recommendation will be placed on a future Council agenda.
Brian Parson’s full resignation letter to Mayor Danny Wright and City Manager Damita Johnson can be viewed below:
“On May 19, 2023, I accepted a position with the United States Attorney’s Office. As such, I am precluded from continuing my role as City Prosecutor for the City of Oak Hill and will formally resign at noon on May 31, 2023. I have considered it an honor and privilege to prosecute cases in the finest municipal court in the State of West Virginia for the past twenty-two years. During my time in office, with the outstanding efforts of so many dedicated and hardworking members of the Oak Hill Police Department, your Oak Hill Municipal Court has worked to provide a fair, rules based, forum where we worked to constantly achieve the balance between public safety and protecting the rights of all parties. I thank you both for your support in achieving the Court that presently exists.
To ease the City as it transitions through this process, I recommend the City appoint Dominick Cangemi, a prosecutor who is taking my position in the Raleigh County Prosecutor’s Office. He has filled in wonderfully several times over the past three years for me in Oak Hill and has an outstanding reputation as an attorney. I know Amanda and Judge Toney are fond of him.
I cannot fully express how much my representation of Oak Hill has meant to me and my family. I do know that the City’s best days are ahead, and I pray that blessings will continue to follow you and all my friends in your administration.
Respectfully,
Brian D. Parsons
Oak Hill City Prosecutor”
