OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Oak Hill Police Department has released an update regarding the death investigation announced Wednesday, stating that authorities have determined the incident was not a criminal matter.
The investigation stems from a call received on January 7, 2026, when emergency services were dispatched to a residence at 113½ Riner Avenue in Oak Hill for a report of an injured female.
Upon arrival, officers located a deceased adult female inside the home. At the time, police said the cause of death was unknown and that an investigation was underway.
According to the follow-up release, an autopsy was conducted by the State Medical Examiner’s Office. Preliminary autopsy results found no evidence of foul play and determined the death was consistent with the woman’s medical history.
Police said the medical examiner’s findings aligned with all other information gathered during the investigation. After reviewing the case in consultation with the Fayette County Prosecutor’s Office, investigators concluded the death was not the result of criminal activity.
The Oak Hill Police Department stated that the case is considered closed and extended condolences to the family of the deceased.
