OAK HILL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Oak Hill continues its efforts to sell the former BB&T bank building.
The building was acquired by the city in April 2022 through a narrow 4-3 vote by the city council, with a price tag of $675,000.
Initially, officials planned to renovate the structure into a new city hall, but that vision never materialized.
Since the purchase, the decision has remained a point of contention among residents, with critics arguing that the expenditure was unnecessary.
A subsequent election brought in a new mayor and several new council members, who have since determined that selling the building is in the city’s best interest.
The building is currently listed for sale for $650,000.
The city has enlisted Leigh Ann Reedy of Our House Realty to handle the sale.
At Monday’s city council meeting, an email update from Reedy was read aloud by City Manager Damita Johnson, detailing ongoing efforts to attract buyers.
According to Reedy, the property has drawn interest, though no formal sale has been made as of Monday.
One potential investor from a telecommunications company was scheduled to tour the building in person that afternoon.
Additionally, an agent from Nicholas County was expected to show the property to another investor later in the week.
Reedy reassured council members that marketing efforts are ongoing, including targeted online advertising campaigns.
She noted that most interest has come from outside the area, with inquiries from Virginia, California, and North Carolina.
A new loan product for short-term rental and multi-unit properties could also expand the pool of potential buyers.
Weather conditions have delayed some showings, but Reedy remains optimistic about the level of interest. A virtual tour of the property is also being prepared to assist with marketing.
Reedy also mentioned the possibility of installing a larger sign on the side of the building to enhance visibility and asked for the council’s input on the idea.
For now, the city remains committed to finding a buyer.
