BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – An Oak Hill woman has been indicted by a Raleigh County Grand Jury on charges stemming from drug possession while incarcerated at Southern Regional Jail.
Julie Roseberry Ray – 49 years old of Oak Hill, WV – was indicted on charges of Contraband Substance onto the Grounds of the Southern Regional Jail, Possession of Controlled Substance by an Inmate, and Offenses by Inmate.
The charges are indicative of one of a string of recent instances at Southern Regional Jail in which controlled substances were discovered in the possession of incarcerated individuals within the facility.
Multiple instances have also occurred in the past year involving drug-related deaths of incarcerated inmates under the custody of Southern Regional. Many of these instances have been assessed as part of ongoing litigation against the facility, including the deaths of 45-year-old Alvis Shrewsberry and Quantez Burks.
One of the latest instances of an inmate death at SRJ occurred in late August when a Fayette County man – identified as 45-year-old Scott Alan Cafego – was found unresponsive in his cell with no immediately apparent cause of death.
