UPDATE: MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The 19-year-old gunman involved in a fatal shooting in the Morgantown area last month has turned himself in to authorities according to recent reports.
As indicated late Wednesday night by members of the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office, Arnold Johnson III was arrested without incident on an outstanding warrant for First Degree-Murder after turning himself in to law enforcement.
The development follows a July 11, 2024, incident in which 21-year-old Rashad Malik Alton of Morgantown was fatally wounded as the result of a shooting for which the 19-year-old was identified as a suspect.
While authorities characterized the incident as an isolated incident which occurred between acquaintances, details remain unclear with regard to the nature of the shooting itself and the events immediately leading up to the incident.
Johnson is expected to be arraigned before a magistrate judge on Thursday, August 8, 2024, according to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office.

MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A 19-year-old man is being sought by authorities for his involvement in a shooting incident which led to the death of a 21-year-old man this month.
According to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday, July 11, 2024, Deputies responded to reports of a shooting at Mountain Valley Drive.
Deputies located a victim upon arriving at the scene. This individual, identified as 21-year-old Rashad Malik Alton of Morgantown, had sustained a gunshot wound. He would be transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment for his wounds but would ultimately pass away there as a result of the injuries.
Detectives indicate that this is believed to have been an isolated incident between two acquaintances.
An investigation identified the shooter as 19-year-old Arnold Johnson III of Montgomery Village. He is wanted by authorities for First Degree-Murder and should be considered dangerous.
Johnson is believed to have fled the state of West Virginia and could currently be in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington DC.
