LITTLE BIRCH, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Little Birch man is facing multiple felony charges after a shooting early Tuesday morning that left another man hospitalized, according to the West Virginia State Police.
Trooper T.J. Bonetti and Trooper D.M. Reeves responded at approximately 1:30 a.m. on June 16 to the Go Mart gas station in Birch River regarding a reported shooting that allegedly occurred in Braxton County.
Upon arrival, troopers found Samuel Kelly, 52, of Birch River, suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower extremities.
According to investigators, the shooting occurred at a residence on Old Turnpike Road in Little Birch. State police allege that Kelly was shot by Rylan Johnson, 38, of Little Birch.
Johnson was arrested and charged with attempted murder, malicious wounding and prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Troopers also discovered Johnson had an outstanding warrant from Wood County.
Johnson was transported to Central Regional Jail, where he is being held pending arraignment.
Kelly was taken to CAMC for medical treatment and remains under care, according to state police.
The investigation remains ongoing.
