GHENT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – UPDATE 8/27/2025 1:39 PM: A male subject was injured Monday, August 26, following an encounter with West Virginia State Police at the Little General Convenience Store on Odd Road in Raleigh County.
Authorities say a West Virginia Turnpike toll worker reported seeing a man in distress, claiming that someone was trying to kill him.
A trooper responding to the scene encountered the armed man inside the store. During the encounter, three rounds were fired, leaving the man injured.
Emergency medical services transported the individual first to Raleigh General Hospital and later to CAMC General for further treatment. No law enforcement officers were harmed in the incident.
The West Virginia State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the event.

ORIGINAL STORY: One person has been shot after reports from a West Virginia toll booth employee and a Ghent Little General employee regarding a man acting bizarrely.
According to police, after 7 AM on Tuesday, a toll booth worker at the Ghent Toll Plaza alerted law enforcement to a man who was acting bizarre on the phone.

The man then allegedly exited I-77 and stopped at the Little General station in Ghent and entered the Subway connected to the store where he continued to act bizarre prompting employees to also call law enforcement.
Police responded to the scene. The individual was injured by gunfire.
It’s currently unclear who shot the individual.
