MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Following the news that WVU was parting ways with Neal Brown, former Mountaineer Pat McAfee says that “something special is possible” with the ongoing coach search.
With a 6-6 season and an overall 37-35 record as head coach, WVU Athletic Director Wren Baker announced Sunday evening that Neal Brown will not return next season.
Frustration has been growing among fans and supporters of WVU for quite some time due to the results or lack thereof produced under Brown.
Baker, in a statement on Sunday evening, said that the national search for a new coach was already underway.
Rumors of who may be in line for the job have been floating around on social media before Sunday’s news was even announced.
Former Mountaineer standout Pat McAfee took to Twitter/X to thank Brown for his time at WVU and also hint at something else.
McAfee posted the following statement Sunday night:
“This WVU coaching news has made for a rather wild last few hours..
I’d like to say.. Thank You @NealBrown_WVU for trying your best and representing WVU with class over the last 6 years. Good luck with everything going forward.
Now… there’s a P4 Head Coaching gig with a GREAT brand/history that doesn’t have a pro team in its state open.. also, a very PASSIONATE fanbase.
I’ve been on the phone quite a bit… something special is possible.. @wrenbaker is in a great spot. I have faith he’s gonna get it right.
Let’s GOOOOOOOO”
McAfee states in the post that “something special is possible,” alluding to who Baker could choose as the next head coach of the Mountaineers.
It is currently unclear as to who McAfee is referencing but it has WVU fans on social media speculating.
