PINEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Town of Pineville was one of many areas throughout West Virginia to partake in the electoral process on Tuesday, with residents casting their votes on a levy for the upcoming fiscal years.
The unofficial results of the election came to light on Tuesday evening, and indicated participation from 61 Pineville residents in the voting process.
Thirty-nine Pineville residents are shown to have voted in favor of the levy, while twenty-two reportedly cast their respective votes in opposition to the proposal.
The required voting in support of the levy to result in passage is 60%, or 36.6 of the sixty-one participating voters. These figures indicate the 39 votes in favor to have exceeded the required percentage for passage, thus the unofficial results of the Town of Pineville Special Election indicate the proposed levy as being on track for passage.
The results are not considered official until such a time as the Pineville Town Council and Mayor Ellison conduct a canvass of the Special Election results. The canvass is set to be held at the Pineville Town Hall Council Chambers on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at 4:30pm.
According to a May statement from the Town of Pineville, funds from the levy would be utilized for “a general recreation program for the Town of Pineville, including the construction of necessary grounds and facilities at Palisades Park, including but not limited to the public swimming pool, purchasing necessary equipment, maintenance of the equipment and grounds and supervision of the recreation generally.”
