MARSHALL COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a growing number of phone scams involving individuals impersonating representatives from Norton Anti-Virus and PayPal.
According to Sheriff Mike Dougherty, local residents have reported receiving unsolicited calls from scammers claiming there are problems with their accounts or security threats to their computers.

The callers then attempt to gain sensitive personal information or remote access to the victim’s device.
The Sheriff’s Office urges the community to take the following precautions:
- Verify the caller by hanging up and contacting the company using the number listed on its official website.
- Never share personal or financial information such as passwords, Social Security numbers, or banking details over the phone.
- Report suspicious activity to local authorities immediately.
