Beckley – A day after struggling on offense Class A James Monroe erupted in a 67-62 win over Class AAAA Princeton Friday afternoon in the Little General Battle for the Armory at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.
After mustering just 34 points the day before against Wyoming East, James Monroe finished with 35 in the first half alone, shooting 56 percent from the field for the game.
Trailing by 10 late in the third quarter, the Mavericks rallied, outscoring Princeton 20-7 in the final frame to secure the victory.
Ryan Mann led James Monroe with 23 points in the win and was one of four Mavericks to score in double figures. He was joined by Ryan Cole (13), Layton Dowdy (12) and Brady Baker (10).
Princeton won the third quarter 23-12 to climb out of a seven-point halftime deficit but ran out of steam late.
Nik Fleming led the charge for Princeton with 15 points after missing Thursday’s contest with an ankle injury. Gavin Stover added 14 in the loss.
