Prep Basketball Roundup: Trail, James Monroe, Bluefield, Summers and Oak Hill win Tuesday; GBC falls to Webster

Midland Trail 65, Greenbrier West 64

Hico – Midland Trail outscored Greenbrier West 18-7 in the third period and held on for a thrilling 65-64 win over the Cavaliers Tuesday.

Jaden Gladwell led four Patriots in double figures with 18 points, including the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer. Eli Campbell followed closely with 17 points, while Thad Brown added 13 points and Justin Cooper scored 10.

Braydon McClung lead all scorers with 21 points for West and tanner Hagy scored 20 points.

GW: 16 20 7 21 – 64

MT: 19 12 18 16 – 65

Greenbrier West

Tanner Hagy 20, Damien Dixon 4, Braydon McClung 21, Isaac Agee 6, Chris Davis 4, Levi Ramsey 2, Colton Dunbar 7. Totals: 27 8-12 64.

Midland Trail

James Monroe 60, Montcalm 25

Lindside – The two-time Class A defending state champions ran out to a 21-3 lead in the first quarter and cruised past Montcalm 60-25 Tuesday.

Ryan Cole led James Monroe with 21 points, eight rebounds and five blocks.  Cooper Ridgeway scored 15 points and had five rebounds, while Brady Baker added nine.

Tristen Cline and Trent Nunley led the Generals with six points each.

The Highlanders knocked down 13 shots from behind the arc to beat Greater Beckley Christian 89-69 in a battle of top-10 Class A teams.

Rayden Triplett poured in 29 points, while Logan Leichliter and Riley Clevenger scored 19 points apiece to lead Webster County who swept the season series with the Crusaders.

Kellen Heffernan led Greater Beckley with 16 points and Keegan Davidson scored 14. Kash Hendrix and Isaiah Kincaid added 10 points each.

Oak Hill 62, Liberty 42

Oak Hill – Oak Hill outscored Liberty in each quarter en route to a 62-42 win over the Raiders Tuesday at the Lilly Center.

Malachi Lewis led the Red Devils with a game-high 21 points, while Trevor Kelly scored nine and Armonyi Hicks added eight points.

Kris Bowman and Jaden Acord paced Liberty with 12 points apiece.

Summers County 86, Meadow Bridge 37

Hinton – Robey Brown recorded a triple double with points, assists and rebounds, helping Summers County to an 86-37 victory over Meadow Bridge in Hinton.

Brown scored 16 while Brandan Isaac led the assault with 26 points.

Brycen Sawyers was the only Wildcat in double figures with 14 points.

Brushfork – Bluefield picked up the pace in the second half, distancing itself in a 61-45 victory Tuesday night at the Brushfork Armory to down sectional foe Wyoming East.

Kam’Ron Gore led Bluefield with 14 points while Jase Smith and R.J. Hairston finished with 13 and 12, respectively.

Braxton Morgan led East and all scorers with 20 while Cole Lambert netted 15.

Princeton – Mercer Christian dropped a tight battle with Mountain Mission, Va., 72-63 Tuesday night at home.

M.J. Patton led the Cavaliers with 29 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Chance Watkins had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds to go along with five assists.

Eli Patton and Isaac Sharp each had nine for MCA (7-8).

Imani Chacha led the Challengers with 21 points and Abel Mesfin scored 16.
