Pipestem – The Greenbrier East girls and the Shady Spring boys dominated their respective events Friday afternoon at the Mountain Lion XC Invitational at Pipestem State Park.
The Spartans placed all five scoring runners in the top-nine finishers led by sophomore standout Neena McClintic who won the individual title.
McClintic turned the tables on second place Violet Wall from Jefferson Christian Academy Friday in their on-going competitive battle. Wall won the Chick-fil-A Beckley Invitational back in August with McClintic running second that day.
Jillian Styles finished fourth for East, followed by Luella Mansheim in sixth place. Kate Adkins ran seventh and Maddie Lilly was ninth for a team total of 24 points. Leah Boggs was also inside the top-20 with a 16th place finish for the Spartans.
Shady Spring finished second in the girls high school team race led by Bre Crouse in 11th place overall. Raelyn Carr (15), Gwynn McGinnis (17) and Audrey Justice (24) all ran in the top-25 for the Tigers.
Carli Spade from PikeView finished fifth and Bella Holly from Oak Hill was eighth. Fellow Red Devil Clara Swank came in 14th.
Summers County multi-sport standout Avery Lilly rounded out the top-10 with another strong race. Nicholas County state champion high jumper Adrienne Truman was 12th and teammate Shaelee Flanagan was 18th overall.
Skylar Wren led the young Woodrow Wilson contingent in 15th place and Leah White was 19th. Kynzie Taylor from James Monroe was 20th.
The Shady Spring boys had four of its five scoring runners finish in the top nine Friday to earn a 44-point win over second place Jefferson Christian.
Ethan Dowdy was second for the Tigers followed by Logan Malott in sixth place. Eli Jordan followed Malott in seventh position and Bo Huffman ran ninth. Caleb Rose rounded out the scoring for the Tigers with a solid 15th place finish, less than a second ahead of teammate David Northrop in 16th.
Defending Class AA region 3 champion Johnny Walkup from Nicholas County was the individual winner, while teammate Luke Barr was third overall. Barr also finished third in the regional event last year.
Vance Lindley and Kyle Peters led the Woodrow Wilson boys with a fourth and fifth place finish, respectively. Drew Breeden was 17th for the Flying Eagles.
Summers County standout Dakota Pettry also finished in the top-10 with an eighth place run.
Jackson Carter paced the upstart Greenbrier East squad in 12th place and Grayson Adams was 14th overall.
Zachary Neal from Princeton was 19th and James Monroe’s Wyatt Lilly was 20th.
