The Lootpress Player of the Week Award sponsored by Mid-State Ford, Dutch Miller Automotive, Little General and The Law Offices of Brandon Steele has returned for the second year.
Below are the candidates for the first week of the prep football season. Voting will close Monday at 11:59 P.M. The fan vote will be used in the event of a tie. There are also changes to the Player of the Week voting pertaining to the top overall vote getter that you can read about here.
The top overall vote getter will advance to our Community Choice poll at the end of the regular season where the winner of that poll will receive a $500 scholarship.
In order for a player to be eligible or nominated, the stat keeper or coach must report all scores and statistics. Scores can be reported to Tylerjackson@lootpress.com and Rustyudy@lootpress.com.
- Dom Collins, Princeton – Collins starred again Friday night in different phases. He returned a punt 38 yards for the game’s first score – his second special teams touchdown of the season – and caught four passes for 125 yards and two more scores. The late scores helped the Tigers put Bluefield away.
- Brady Green, Shady Spring – Green threw for 226 yards and three touchdowns, adding 102 yards and another score on the ground as the Shady secured a last-minute comeback win against Nicholas County Friday night in Shady Spring.
- Elijah Redfern, Beckley – Redfern starred in Friday’s win against Greenbrier East. He turned three carries into 12 yards and two touchdowns, caught five passes for 82 yards and a third score and intercepted a pass in the Flying Eagles’ 42-39 win over their rivals.
- Malachi Lewis, Oak Hill – Lewis completed 6 of 14 passing attempts for 130 yards and four touchdowns, leading Oak Hill to a 27-26 win and in the process handing Independence its first regular season loss since since Oct. 2, 2020.
- Cole Vandall, Greenbrier West – Vandall threw for 68 yards and two touchdowns, adding 28 yards rushing and a third score in a win against Summers County.
- Kaiden Simms, Meadow Bridge – Simms ran the ball 22 times for 114 yards and a touchdown, adding 11 tackles on defense for the Wildcats who are off to a 2-0 start.
- Jaden Gladwell, Midland Trail – Gladwell threw for 128 yards and two touchdowns Friday as Midland Trail ousted Tolsia to improve to 2-0 on the season.
- Logan Carver, Montcalm – Carver accumulated 160 all-purpose yards Friday for the Generals, scoring three touchdowns and adding a pair of two point conversions in a win.
